Have you ever wondered what it's like to step into the world of an artist, to see where their creativity unfolds? Or perhaps you're craving a deeper connection to art, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the minds of those who bring beauty into the world? If so, this is your personal invitation to visit me, and many other artists in their spaces, on an artist studio tour. Studio tours are an experience that promises inspiration, discovery, and a whole lot of creative magic. 2024 is the Calgary Artists Studio Tour’s third year and it’s the largest so far, boasting over 80 artists!
As you embark on this journey with me, here's what you can expect:
Inspiring Spaces: Picture this, walking into a studio that's more than just a workspace—it's a reflection of the artist's soul. Some studios are organized and minimalist, others vibrant and eclectic. Some artists work on their kitchen table or in their garage, while others have large spaces outside their homes. Each one tells a story, inviting you to step into the artist's world and see their vision come to life.
Meet the Artists: One of the most exciting parts of a studio tour is meeting the artists themselves. You get the opportunity to chat with them, learn about their creative process, and hear the stories behind their art. It's this personal connection that adds depth to your appreciation of their work.

Artistic Diversity: From paintings to sculptures, ceramics to mixed media, studio tours showcase a diverse range of mediums and styles. The Calgary Artists Studio Tour features almost every style of art your heart desires! You'll encounter artists pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas, expanding your own artistic horizons and deepening your appreciation for art in the process.
Exclusive Access: Unlike traditional galleries, studio tours offer exclusive access to artists and their work which provides a unique opportunity to witness the creative process firsthand. This intimate experience can deepen your connection to art and offer insights into the artist's inspirations and techniques. Additionally, interacting with artists in their studios allows for meaningful conversations about art, providing a more profound understanding of the stories behind the artworks and the artist's vision. There’s often the opportunity to purchase art directly from the artist as well!

Community Engagement: Studio tours bring together artists and art enthusiasts. It’s a chance to connect with others who share your passion for art, creating a sense of belonging and inspiration. After reading “Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us” I have come to understand that engaging with a community of artists and art enthusiasts creates a supportive environment where individuals can share their passion for art, exchange ideas, and feel understood. This sense of belonging can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. The creative atmosphere of artist studios and the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic styles inspires creativity and self-expression, which are important for maintaining your mental health. Overall, community engagement through artist studio tours can have a positive impact on mental well-being by providing social connections, a sense of purpose, and creative inspiration!

Support Local Artists: This one is a no-brainer! By participating in a studio tour, you're not just experiencing art - you're supporting it. Your attendance and patronage help the local artists involved pursue their passion and continue sharing their creativity with the world.
